Artistic Statement & Press Kit

Jeffrey Nytch enjoys a rich and diverse career as a composer, performer, educator, and thought leader in arts entrepreneurship…but it hasn’t been a straight line getting there. He spent much of his teen years exercising an uncanny ability to make money in the stock market, and dreamed of going to Wall Street and conquering the world. Then there was his study of geology—at the same time he began to take composition seriously. In the end, music won out over all else. Having earned graduate degrees from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music he embarked on a professional odyssey of sorts, building an accomplished career as a composer, singer/voice artist, arts administrator, and educator.

A MacDowell Fellow and recipient of multiple grants and commissions, his works have been performed by major artists and in prominent venues throughout the U.S. His book, The Entrepreneurial Muse (Oxford), is a seminal text in arts entrepreneurship and helped establish him as a leader in the field.

Nytch is currently Professor of Composition & Entrepreneurship at The University of Colorado-Boulder, a place with the stunning geology of Colorado’s Front Range as the backdrop for his artistic inspiration. It’s nice when things come together, isn’t it?
